Seafood Cocktail Pizza with Mixed Seafood
Here, a “seafood cocktail” is a pack of frozen mixed seafood. Usually it’s a third peeled shrimp, a third mussel meat and a third something with tentacles that nobody can identify.
But there are good seafood cocktails too. They contain at least 6-7 kinds of sea creatures: besides shrimp and mussels, there are cuttlefish, octopus, squid and scallops. We usually buy those not in a package but by weight.
Everything alive that is caught in the sea counts as food. The only limits are upbringing and tradition. Around the world, seafood is a very significant part of the menu.
I don’t know how we feel about oysters, but we love seafood. We make pasta dishes, risotto and even pizza with it. Today we decided to make a pizza with a “seafood cocktail”, also known as seafood pizza with mixed seafood. The ingredients are very simple, and the pizza is easy to make.
Ingredients
2 servings
- Pizza dough 400 g
- Seafood cocktail 250 g
- Basil 2-3 sprigs
- Olive oil 2 tbsp
- Parmesan 50 g
- Mozzarella 100 g
- Green olives 6
- Tomato 1
- Garlic 2-3 cloves
- Oregano, salt to taste
Step-by-step recipe
Make the dough following my recipe Pizza dough.
Grate a piece of Parmesan. Peel 2-3 cloves of garlic. Pick all the leaves off the basil. Put everything into a blender. Grind the cheese and herbs to the texture of fine grain. You should get a fragrant, dry, bright green mixture.
Scald the tomato and peel off the skin. Scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Chop the flesh with a knife or in a blender. Add 1 tsp sugar (5 g), pepper and salt. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a frying pan and pour in the tomato mixture. Cook over medium heat until the mass thickens and stops steaming. You get an excellent tomato sauce. If tomatoes are hard to come by, use 1 cup of tomato juice (200 ml) instead.
Boil the seafood in plain water for 2-3 minutes, with no salt or spices. Drain the water and squeeze the seafood lightly, as for a seafood salad. Cut the green olives in half lengthwise.
Spread tomato sauce over the dough in the pan. Be especially careful with the edge, because it always gets little topping.
Arrange the pieces of seafood, trying to distribute them evenly.
Sprinkle with dried oregano. Place the halved green olives on top of the pizza.
Sprinkle the whole surface of the pizza with the ground Parmesan and basil. The seafood pizza looks quite colorful.
Press the surface down lightly with your palms so the pizza doesn’t puff up too much and the topping stays evenly on the dough.
Drizzle the pizza with olive oil and put it into an oven preheated to 200°C. The pizza bakes for up to 20 minutes. It’s worth checking by lifting the edge of the dough.
Cut the finished pizza into 6-8 slices with a pizza cutter.
Serve the seafood pizza hot only.
