When the cold weather arrives, illnesses usually start spreading en masse. For some reason they are all called colds. Though one cold is not the same as another.

Most often cold symptoms turn into various serious illnesses, from acute respiratory infections to the flu that kills chickens and pigs. Then you often hear: the immune system is weakened. There you go!

So let’s strengthen our immunity! By the way, iced tea with ginger is also very tasty and healthy. And try making a delicious hot currant shoot tea.

Doctors believe that ginger tea can help keep colds away, if you drink it every day. Hardly “keep away”, though. More like “noticeably reduce the chance”. And honey is one of the most effective natural “medicines” too.

A very simple, tasty homemade preventive “medicine” is ginger tea with honey and lemon. A guardian of your immunity.

Ingredients

2 servings

  • Ginger (fresh) 10-12 g
  • Flower honey 2-4 tsp (14–28 g)
  • Green tea 1 tbsp
  • Boiling water 0.5 l
  • Lemon 1
  • Cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, cloves optional

Step-by-step recipe

How to brew green tea

  1. Proportions for 0.5 l of water: 1 tbsp green tea, 10-12 g fresh ginger, 2-4 tsp honey (14–28 g) and a quarter of a small lemon.

First, the tea. You can talk about tea quality endlessly and give a huge number of arguments. Don’t overthink it! Are you used to a certain kind of green tea? Great. If you like it, it suits you. Take your favorite plain green tea. I like large-leaf green tea, which unfurls into whole leaves when brewed.

  2. Boil 0.5 l of water in a saucepan. Take the pan off the heat, add 1 tbsp of your favorite green tea to the boiling water and leave it to steep. Steep for no more than 5 minutes; 3-4 minutes is enough. Then pour the tea into a warmed teapot and throw away the leaves.

If you like, you can add extra spices to the drink. They don’t change the properties of the tea, but give it a special taste and aroma. For example, a pinch of cinnamon, a few cardamom seeds, 1-2 crushed black peppercorns. Someone once said you can even add vanillin. You can add 1-2 cloves.

How to add ginger

  1. It is better to use fresh ginger, and it is sold everywhere now and is cheap. For 0.5 l of water you need 10-12 g of ginger, a piece of unpeeled root. Dried ginger, despite how easy it is to find, is better avoided.

  2. Peel the piece of root and cut it with a knife into thin slices, and the drink will be clear. You can also cut it into cubes the size of a matchstick head, which works great too.

  3. Add the ginger. Then bring the tea almost to a boil, but do not boil it. Turn off the heat and let it steep under the lid for 5 minutes.

How to add honey and lemon

  1. Add the flower honey. Here, as they say, it is to taste. I added 4 tsp of real, guaranteed natural flower honey. You can often buy honey of “unknown” origin. They will assure you that the honey is perfectly natural. But don’t be fooled. Buy honey only from a trusted “shop”.

  2. Squeeze a quarter of a small lemon, drop the rind into the tea and let it steep again for 3-4 minutes.

  3. Strain the steeped drink through a sieve to filter out the lemon and larger pieces. If you like, you can also filter it through a clean cloth or a paper filter (sold in stores for coffee machines).

Serving

  1. Ginger tea can be drunk both hot and cold. Add a thin slice of lemon to the hot drink.

Ginger tea is very tasty and spicy. And extraordinarily healthy. The color of the drink is light amber.
